Localizing the SDGs: Workshops to set subnational targets in Regions V, IV-A, and X
May to July 2022
The National Economic and Development Authority kicked off the SDG localization efforts at the subnational level in 2022 as part of the national strategy to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country.
From April to June 2022, NEDA, through its regional offices (NROs) began localizing the SDG mechanisms and indicators by hosting workshops that brought together regional government and non-government actors who are key partners in translating national SDG implementation to the local levels.
The Bicol region (Region V), CALABARZON (Region IV-A), and Northern Mindanao (Region X), served as pilot areas for the workshops. These regions were chosen due to existing SDG work in the NROs as well as the readiness of development actors in the area. The localization workshop was designed to develop consensus points for a framework on localizing the SDGs. It was focused on gathering inputs for the 2022 VNR while also using a tool that will allow the NROs and local development partners to set the targets they need to reach by 2030 and determine implementation gaps and possible remedies to reach said targets.
Each NRO determined goals and indicators that resonated well with their localities. The workshop allowed them to identify policies, activities, and programs (PAPs) that are geared towards addressing the gaps and meeting their identified 2030 targets.
